Big things are happening at The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake! Our little storybook retreat in East Wakefield, New Hampshire, is coming together, and next week will bring one of the most exciting transformations yet.

Since our last update, the framing has been completed, the windows and sliding glass doors have been installed, and our handcrafted round front door is officially in place. After so much planning, it’s exciting to walk through the house and see our vision becoming real.

The Spaces Are Coming to Life at The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake

Arched exterior openings with installed sliding glass doors during construction of The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake.

With the framing complete, we can finally get a feel for the rooms and imagine the experience we’re creating for our future guests. The windows and sliders let in natural light and frame views of the surrounding landscape.

Watching the house go from a shell to defined spaces has been a huge milestone. We’re already picturing slow mornings, cozy evenings, and all the thoughtful details that will make a stay here special.

Insulated, Waterproofed, and Ready for the Next Step

The spray foam insulation is installed, and the rubber waterproofing seal and rubber membrane are in place. These layers have been an essential part of preparing the structure for its earth covering.

There’s a lot of work behind the scenes in a build like this. While these steps may eventually be hidden from view, getting them completed brings us to the part we’ve been especially eager to see.

Next Week: The Hillside Transformation Begins

Next week, our landscapers are scheduled to begin covering the house with dirt and planting Bella Blue grass. This is when The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake will really begin to take on its tucked-into-the-hillside appearance!

The grass will need time to grow and establish, but adding the earth will change the look of the house right away. The exposed structure will begin blending into the landscape, bringing that storybook feeling to life.

We can’t wait to share the before-and-after photos from this stage.

Our Round Front Door Is Installed!

One of our favorite moments so far has been seeing the handcrafted round front door installed. It’s a detail we’ve imagined for so long, and now it’s there—ready to become the entrance to a very special getaway.

The door brings so much character to the house. Seeing it in place makes it easier than ever to imagine welcoming our first guests.

The Team Bringing Our Vision to Life

A big thank-you to our contractor, Stas, and the team at Maximus Builds Corp for helping bring The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake to life. This unusual build takes careful planning, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, and we’re grateful for the work going into every stage. It’s exciting to see the vision we’ve spent so long imagining take shape with their help!

Follow Along With Our Progress

There’s still more to do as we move toward the interior finishes, furnishings, and all the little touches we’ve been carefully choosing. This house has been a labor of love, and each step brings us closer to sharing it with you.

Thank you for following along as The Hobbit House on Belleau Lake comes to life. We’ll be sharing more photos as the landscaping begins and the transformation continues!
